Be Subject To

Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good. (Titus 3:1, NIV 1984).

My Musings – Our primary loyalty is to God’s Kingdom. “We must obey God rather than men!” (Acts 5:29, NIV 1984). So, where “rulers and authorities” of this world are contrary to God’s laws we are “to be obedient” to God, “to be ready to do whatever is good” in His eyes. However, “though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world.” (2 Corinthians 10:3–4, NIV 1984). We do not resort to violent subversion or other unlawful measures.

My Advice – “Jesus said, ‘My Kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight…my Kingdom is from another place…I came into the world [and send my servants], to testify to the truth.'” (John 18:36, 37, NIV 1984). Let’s keep our allegiances in order and our citizenships orderly, by doing first “whatever is good” in the eyes of God, then our earthly “rulers and authorities.”
