Did God Really Say?

Did God Really Say

Genesis 3:1, 4Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘you must not eat from any tree in the garden’?” “You will not surely die,” the serpent said to the woman. (NIV 1978)

My Musing – Satan does not often start with outright contradiction of God’s Word. First, he calls us to question it (‘did God really say?”). This may be combined with distortion or misinterpretation of the Word (“you must not eat from any tree?”) that makes God seem unreasonable. Eventually he will take us where he wanted to all along – disagreeing with God’s Word (“you will not.”)

My Advice – Be careful with teachings and philosophies that question, distort, misinterpret, manipulate or contradict God’s Word. They may be subtle and seem small and innocent enough, but if we give Satan a foothold, He will always lead us into something bigger and much less innocent.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.

  1. I have heard it said that Satan will use an ocean of truth to float one lie. Good or God? Make sure there is only one “o”. Indeed, the fruit was good to look at. God said there were consequences to eating. We all know that that to be true and would as assuredly eaten as the first couple.
