Acts 17:11 – Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see what Paul said was true. (NIV 1978)
My Musings – Paul was as trustworthy as they come, but the Bereans still made sure that what he was saying was scriptural. The Word is the ultimate authority, not our pastors, Sunday school teachers or mentors.
My Advice – Make sure when you receive a message that you check it out for yourself. Many things will sound true but nevertheless be wrong. Do this even if the source is otherwise trustworthy (yes even when it is from me). People are fallible; the Word of God is not.
