In All Things

Now God had caused the official to show favor and sympathy to Daniel.  (Daniel 1:9, NIV 1984).

My Musings – His nation conquered, he was carried off into exile.  Foreign land, unfamiliar language, strange customs, and pagan “gods.”  No connection with his homeland, except for those exiled with him.  Daniel had every reason to wonder where his God was in all of this.  But not for long.  God caused those who had been put in charge of the exiles “to show favor and sympathy to Daniel.”

My Advice – When things are not going great, and you know it is not because of unconfessed sin, start looking for what God’s favor might be in the midst of what’s going on.  For “we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”  (Romans 8:28, NIV 1984).  That’s “in all things.”  Be patient and keep watching for it.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
