Cancel The Gospel?

“But what about you?” [Jesus] asked. “Who do you say I am?”  Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.” (Matthew 16:15–18, NIV 1984).

My Musings – It was late on a Friday afternoon and darkness had fallen over the land. Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?”—which means, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” With a loud cry, Jesus breathed his last. (Mark 15:34, 37, NIV 1984). Silenced at last. The gates of Hell had prevailed. Culture cancelled. Or so it was thought. It was Friday night, but Sunday was on the way.

Two thousand years have come and gone. Much has been done throughout the centuries to cancel the Gospel, without success. Will our generation be the one to succumb? Will Christianity be cancelled in our time? Not hardly. “I [Jesus] tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.” (Matthew 5:17–18, NIV 1984).

My Advice – I’m not saying things will be easy. Many times it will feel like Friday night. But I’m here to tell you — Sunday’s on the way!

Sunday’s On The Way

When [cancel culture tries] to bury you
and make [the Gospel] hard to [say]
It may seem like Friday Night
But I say Sunday
I’m here to tell you Sunday
The devil hates Sunday
I tell you Sunday is here to stay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
