It Is Finished!

“Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son.  I have brought you glory on earth by completing the work you gave me to do.”  (John 17:1, 4, NIV 1984).

My Musings“I have brought…by completing…”  He had not yet sweat drops of blood in anguished prayer asking if possible that He be spared the cross.  He had not yet been betrayed by a friend’s kiss or arrested.  The beating, whipping, and piercing had not yet taken place.  He had yet to proclaim “it is finished!”  Yet He spoke of it as if it had already taken place.  “I have brought…by completing…”  He not only knew that death was certain, but that the resurrection was also certain.  “I have brought…by completing…”

Rise Again — by Dallas Holm

Go ahead, drive the nails in my hands
Laugh at me where you stand
Go ahead, and say it isn’t me
The day will come, when you will see!

Go ahead, and mock my name
My love for you is still the same
Go ahead, and bury me
But very soon I will be free!

Go ahead, and say I’m dead and gone
But you will see that you were wrong!

Cause I’ll rise again
Ain’t no power on earth can tie me down
Yes, I’ll rise again
Death can’t keep me in the ground!

A completed work, before it had even happened!

My Advice – There’s one more thing that is so certain that it can be spoken of as if it has already taken place.

Go ahead, try to hide the Son
But all will see that I’m the One!

Cause I’ll Come again
Ain’t no power on earth can keep me back
Yes, I’ll come again
Come to take my people back.

The question you must ask yourself — am I certain? You can be. See my “The Born Again Experience” musings.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
