Public Spectacle

When you were dead in your sins and in … your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross. (Colossians 2:13–15, NIV 1984).

My Musings – Those who opposed Him, intended to make a public spectacle of Him, cancelling His message for all time. Needless to say, but as this text points out, it backfired. They, and the one who prompted them (Satan) played right into His hands and actually facilitated the ageless plan that foiled their plans. “Triumphing over them by the cross … disarmed the powers and authorities … having canceled the written code … that stood opposed to us.” How did he cancel the written code? By fulfilling every “jot and tittle” on our behalf. Doing for us what we could never do on our own. A perfect plan. Perfect because it was the only plan that could, and actually did, work.

My Advice – If you currently stand opposed to God through unbelief in who Christ is and what He did, why not surrender today and let “God [make] you alive with Christ?” Read my blog series, “The Born Again Experience.”

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
