No Excuses

[God] said, “Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?” The man said, “The woman you put here with me—she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.” (Genesis 3:11–13, NIV 1984).

“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’” (Matthew 7:21–23, NIV 1984).

My Musings – The human race has had several millenniums of practice in making excuses. No excuses were acceptable in the Garden (when mankind did what God said they must not do to avoid death) and none will be accepted when we stand before Him at the judgement (why we did not do what Jesus said we must do gain eternal life). No “ifs, ands, or buts.” No “however” we did this. God will accept only one answer to the question “why should I let you in?” That answer is, “I know your Son.”

My Advice – It’s not what you did (or did not do). It’s who you know. If you don’t “know” the Son, there is no other alternative. See my “The Born Again Experience – The Real Meaning Behind the Myths,” musings to find out the why and how.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
