But they shouted all the louder, “Crucify him!” When Pilate saw that he was getting nowhere, but that instead an uproar was starting, he took water and washed his hands in front of the crowd. “I am innocent of this man’s blood,” he said. “It is your responsibility!” (Matthew 27:22–24, NIV 1984).
My Musings – He was the Roman Governor. It was within is power to release Jesus. But he wanted to appease the people and keep the peace. We are rarely if ever in such a powerful position, making it hard to resist popular opinion. But it is not impossible. No matter how powerful the lobby, how intense the peer pressure, or how strong the “current” we are “swimming” against, we can say…
