The Big Hurt

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6, NIV 1984).

My Musings – Can I be honest with you? Has anyone ever said that to you? This begs the question: you mean you usually are not honest with me? Maybe they think “[we] can’t handle the truth.” For, apparently there are those who cannot handle the truth, or at the very least do not want to hear the truth. Because they go to such lengths to avoid or dispute the truth. Why is that? Why would anyone not want to hear the truth? Sure, it might hurt a little at first, but in the long run not as much as not hearing the truth.

Yet, many continue to prefer the lies. And as I read on the internet just the other day, “the truth is still the truth, even if no one believes [refuses to listen to] it. A lie is still a lie, even if everyone believes [prefers to listen to] it.”

My Advice – Can I be honest with you? “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12, NIV 1984). This is a truth you best be able to handle. Because there is no other truth, just lies. And a lie by any other name (e.g., many paths) is still a lie, even if everyone believes it. Not handling the truth or avoiding it altogether will result in a big hurt.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
