Exact Representation

The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being. (Hebrews 1:2–3, NIV 1984).

My Musings – Exact representation. Seems almost contradictory, doesn’t it? Either it is exact, or it is a representation. But exact and representation at the same time?

Exact. No deviation. “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one.” (Deuteronomy 6:4, NIV 1984).

Representation. Likeness. “Anyone who has seen me [Jesus] has seen the Father.” (John 14:9, NIV 1984).

Being. Having existence. In one exact essence (inherent, unchanging nature) represented in three persons. The Father is God. The Son is God. The Spirit is God. The Father is not the Son or Spirit. The Son is not the Spirit or Father. The Spirit is not the Father or Son.

My Musings – Our finite minds cannot fully comprehend this attribute of the infinite Godhead. We must accept it by faith.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
