To whom can I speak and give warning? Who will listen to me? Their ears are closed so they cannot hear. The Word of the LORD is offensive to them. (Jeremiah 6:10, NIV 1984).
For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. (2 Timothy 4:2–4, NIV 1984).
And the LORD said to Samuel: “See, I am about to do something in Israel that will make the ears of everyone who hears of it tingle. At that time, I will carry out against Eli everything I spoke against his family—from beginning to end.” (1 Samuel 3:11–12, NIV 1984).
My Musings – I wonder if there ever was a time when people generally found the Word of the LORD more “offensive to them” than they do now? They have turned their “itching ears…away from the truth” and are turning “aside to myths” that “suit their own desires.”
God has spoken a lot in His Word – “from beginning to end” – about the end of the age. And when the events He foretold begin to unfold, much like it was with Eli, itching ears will begin to tingle. Eyes will be opened, and hearts will begin to burn. The question will be who will turn aside from the myths and back to the truth? “To whom can I speak and give warning? Who will listen to me?”
My Advice – Are your ears beginning to tingle? The Day of the LORD may well be at hand. When your ears are filled with the sound of the trumpet your heart needs to be ready. Read my musings on “The Born Again Experience” to find out how you can be ready.
