Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. (James 3:13, NIV 1984).

My Musings – While this is something that we need to examine as individual Christians, I wonder how we’ve been doing collectively as a Church? Deeds done in humility or deeds done in self-righteous self-piety? How can we tell? We don not need to have the world tell us, James provided a litmus test for us (individually and collectively).

  • Earthly Wisdom – If you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, of the devil. For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice. (James 3:14–16, NIV 1984).

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
