What you heard from me, keep as the pattern of sound teaching, with faith and love in Christ Jesus. Guard the good deposit that was entrusted to you—guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us. (2 Timothy 1:13–14, NIV 1984).

My Musings – While Paul may have urged Timothy to follow what he had heard from Paul as a pattern for living the Christian life, he did not want Timothy to be a disciple of Paul. For who is Paul? Who is Apollos? Who is Cephas? And for sure, who is the Brew? The pattern of Paul was to be a devoted follower of Jesus Christ. To do what God had called him to do.

Yes, we are to be involved in disciple-making. But our intention is not to create “mini-me’s.” That’s what cults do. They are to be “his workmanship,” not ours…

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
