They [the Sanhedrin] called the apostles in and had them flogged. Then they ordered them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. The apostles left the Sanhedrin, rejoicing because they had been counted worthy of suffering disgrace for the Name. Day after day, in the temple courts and from house to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Christ. (Acts 5:40–42, NIV 1984).
My Musings – “They ordered them not to speak in the name of Jesus. They never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Christ.” After being flogged no less. According to tradition, all but one were eventually martyred because they never stopped proclaiming the good news. The one not martyred? Imprisoned on the Isle of Patmos, but continued to encourage, exhort and minister to at least seven churches through his writings. “Rejoicing because they had been counted worthy of suffering disgrace for the Name.”
My Advice – What about us? Pray that we may be as faithful as they were, because hard days appear to be at hand.
Amen, Steve, amen. Blessings!
