Long Division

“If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand.” (Mark 3:24–25, NIV 1984).

My Musings – This was Jesus’ response to being accused of casting out demons by the power of Satan. But the principle applies to a variety of situations. The “United” States almost fell during the civil war, divided by the issue of slavery. But the “Union” was preserved. Today, the division is greater than at any time since or before. With little signs of repair. If this division continues much longer, how can it possibly stand?

My Advice – The Church must not allow this division to infiltrate its ranks. The “wall of separation” between it and the culture will likely continue to widen, culminating in widespread persecution of its members. We shouldn’t be surprised by that, but we must not attempt to narrow the chasm by appeasement or compromise.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
