“There is none besides me. I am the LORD, and there is no other. I form the light and create darkness, I bring prosperity and create disaster; I, the LORD, do all these things.”(Isaiah 45:6–7, NIV 1984).
My Musings – Once upon a time, men worshipped many “gods.” Fearful that they might overlook and offend some deity, the Athenians erected a shrine “to an unknown god.” (Acts 17:23, NIV 1984). Today, at least in the Western world, it is generally acknowledged that there is only one God, or there is no God. At one point it was even fashionable to declare that God was dead, which I think would kind of disqualify Him.
For those who still believe in God, the great sin is not so much that they “shall have no other gods before me” (Exodus 20:3, NIV 1984), but that a growing number are insisting that there are multiple paths to God. Do you want know what God says about that? “This [Jesus] is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!” (Matthew 17:5, NIV 1984). And what did Jesus say that we should listen to? “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6–7, NIV 1984). What better authorities than God the Father and God the Son?
My Advice – None beside the Father, none beside the Son. Who will you be beside? Only one path will take you there. “There is no other.” Seems pretty clear what one should do. Take that one and only path that leads to God.
