All Else And Everything

Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. (Proverbs 4:23, NIV 2011).

My Musings – Superlatives. The highest attainable level or degree.

Above All Else – Over and above all other factors or considerations. Nothing else takes more priority (once you are a child of God).

Everything – The totality of things relevant to the subject matter, without exception.

Why is this important? “The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks [and the person acts]. (Luke 6:45, NIV 1984).

Why to such a superlative degree? “You were running a good race. [What got into] you and kept you from obeying the truth? That kind of persuasion does not come from the one who calls you. ‘A little yeast works through the whole batch of dough.'” (Galatians 5:7–9, NIV 1984).

My Advice – Think that holding onto a bit of the old man (or woman) can’t be that big of a deal? Think again. While we all stumble now and then, we need to be willing to let it go. With the help of the Holy Spirit, we can. So, we need to make guarding our hearts our highest priority. For reserving even a “little yeast,” if not dealt with will overflow into your life and character. Anything less than all is not a commitment.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
