
The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned. (Isaiah 9:2, NIV 1984).
My Musings – It seems to me that the entire world is “walking in darkness.“ Clearly there have been periods when certain countries could be characterized as “living in the land of the shadow of death” (Hitler’s Germany, Stalin’s Russia, Mao’s China. Pol Pot’s Cambodia, etc.), but the darkness is falling on a greater portion of the world than perhaps ever before. Once considered a “shining city on a hill,” even America has lost a significant portion of its moral fiber. Would that the “light [would] dawn” and the people see the “great light” of the Gospel.
