The Crucible

The crucible for silver and the furnace for gold, but man is tested by the praise he receives. (Proverbs 27:21, NIV 1984).

My Musings – For the Christian, fiery trials are just as likely to refine and purify them as they are to consume them. Maybe more so. But praise and flattery may be the greater danger leading to pride and then a fall.

My Advice – Painful and fiery trials are to be expected. But do not be surprised by flattery. “With flattery he will corrupt those who have violated the covenant, but the people who know their God will firmly resist him.” (Daniel 11:32, NIV 1984).

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
