The LORD said, “You have been concerned about this vine, though you did not tend it or make it grow. It sprang up overnight and died overnight. But Nineveh has more than a hundred and twenty thousand people who cannot tell their right hand from their left, and many cattle as well. Should I not be concerned about that great city?” (Jonah 4:10–11, NIV 1984).
My Musings – I am constantly amazed at the various things that we get concerned about in this world with such great passion. It’s not necessarily that the things are not worth being concerned about, but rather how they pale in comparison to some of the things that deserve our concern but are too often neglected. Such was the case with Jonah. “You should have practiced [had concern for] the latter, without neglecting the former. You blind guides! You strain out a gnat but swallow a camel. (Matthew 23:23–24, NIV 1984).
My Advice – Let’s make sure we are concerned about the right things, or at least that we have our priorities properly aligned.
