“The people of Judah have done evil in my eyes,” declares the LORD. “They have set up their detestable idols in the house that bears my Name and have defiled it. They have built the high places of Topheth in the Valley of Ben Hinnom to burn their sons and daughters in the fire—something I did not command, nor did it enter my mind. So beware, the days are coming…” (Jeremiah 7:30–32, NIV 1984).
My Musings – There are many passages in the Old Testament in a similar vein condemning both Judah and Israel. And for both “the days are coming” that God spoke of came. Just about every time that I read any of these passages the following thought comes to my mind: “The people of [America] have done evil in my eyes. They have built their [clinics] to [sacrifice] their [unborn] sons and daughters [in the name of choice]…something I did not command, nor did it enter my mind. So beware, the days are coming…”
I’ve written on more than one occasion in my musings that I cannot expect those outside “The Kingdom” to behave like those within. While this is still true, abortion is as close to an exception as I can think of. “Indeed, when [people], who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law, since they show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts now accusing, now even defending them.” (Romans 2:14–15, NIV 1984).
But for those who do not “do by nature things required by the law,” such as “you shall not murder” (Exodus 20:13, NIV 1984), “they are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to…every kind of impurity,” (Ephesians 4:18–19, NIV 1984).
How can I say all this? At least to other passages come to mind.
Their Unformed Bodies – “I praise you [God] because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” (Psalm 139:14–16, NIV 1984). In the name of choice, how many pages have been ripped out of that book?
Welcome The Little Children – “He [Jesus] took a little child and had him stand among them. Taking him in his arms, he said to them, ‘Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me.’” (Mark 9:36–37, NIV 1984). What do you think He might say to those who have chosen to not welcome the birth of a child and instead terminate their pregnancy?
My Advice – What “kind of days” do you think are coming for a nation that made laws to legalize the choice of this detestable thing called abortion? Or, for the men and women who have chosen to abort their unborn children?
I’ve also written on more than one occasion in my musings that there is no sin so great that Jesus did not die for, and no sin so small that He didn’t have to die for. So, there is forgiveness for the men and women who repent and ask forgiveness of their choice to abort (“sin so great”) their unborn children. I don’t know about the nation.
Absent this, the “kind of day” to come will be a day they regret that they made “freedom of choice” or “my body my choice” their mantra. What “kind of day?” You are free to choose.
