That Others May See

Some say, “His [musings] are weighty and forceful, but in person he is unimpressive and his [actions] amounts to nothing.” Such people should realize that what we are in our [musings] when we are absent, we will be in our actions when we are present.” (2 Corinthians 10:10–11, NIV 1984).

My Musings – I don’t know how “weighty [or] forceful” my musings are, but my hopes and prayers are that whatever advice I offer in them are consistent with my actions as I go about my life. To practice what I “preach.” For it is my firm belief that if I am going to talk the talk, I better walk the walk. To which I must confess is not always the case. But even when it is, that I would “not boast beyond proper limits, but will confine my boasting to the field God has assigned to [me], a field that reaches even to you.” (2 Corinthians 10:13, NIV 1984).

My Advice“Let him who boasts boast in the Lord. For it is not the one who commends himself who is approved, but the one whom the Lord commends.” (2 Corinthians 10:17–18, NIV 1984). That, my friends, is the commendation that I covet. “This is why I write these [musings].” (2 Corinthians 13:10, NIV 1984). To faithfully proclaim His Word through this assigned “field” that He has led me to. That others may see Him through my musings, and so receive that commendation.

In the meantime, I will “do [my] best to present [myself] to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly [muses] the word of truth.” (2 Timothy 2:15, NIV 1984). As you should do in whatever “field God has assigned to you.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
