Brother, Can You Spare An Hour?

Then [Jesus] returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. “Simon,” he said to Peter, “are you asleep? Could you not keep watch for one hour? Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak.” (Mark 14:37–38, NIV 1984).

My Musings – We tend to give the disciples a hard time about this. But are we any better? Over a twenty-four-hour period, does He regularly get one? Usually? Occasionally? One-hour on Sunday morning? When there isn’t something else to do? Only if the weather is nice? But not so nice that the great outdoors is calling? But we can worship Him anywhere, right? Would that really be considered worship if we blew Him off all week? Is the spirit even willing?

My Advice – Perhaps I over-dramatize a bit, but if we compared our time on entertainment and social media to the time we give to the Savior of our soul, we probably would wonder how we could ever possibly hear, “well done good and faithful servant.” Let’s do better.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
