In the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.” The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. (2 Peter 3:3-4, 9–10, NIV 1984).
My Musings – “Sorry I’m late. I got here as soon as I wanted to.” (The Minds Journal). Some might call it being “fashionably late.” Being just late enough to give the impression that you are a busy, popular person that was held up with other business. (The Urban Dictionary). With God, we might call it being compassionately “late.” Which in reality, is right on time. The “fullness of time.” Christ will “[get] here as soon as [He wants] to.” Not because He is busy, popular or held up. But because He is patient and does not want anyone to perish. And that, is nothing to scoff about.
My Advice – As Chrsitians, as the days grow increasingly evil, we may wish that God would hasten Jesus’ return. But we should be just as concerned, “not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” Nevertheless, “the day of the Lord will come.” We cannot set our clocks to it. But we can be certain of it. Just as soon as He wants. And He wants that last convert.
