He who was seated on the throne said, “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End.” (Revelation 21:5, NIV 1984).
My Musings – “The Wall Street Journal calls [it] “America’s Great AI Freakout. At the heart of the concern is a capacity known as ‘recursive self-improvement,’ or RSI. This refers to a stage when AI [artificial intelligence] models are able to write their own programs and drive their own development. If they reach this stage, one expert said, this could lead to ‘catastrophic and irreversible loss of control in the very near term.’ If AI reaches RSI and pursues goals that do not align with human flourishing, it’s not hard to imagine apocalyptic outcomes for our race.” (Denison Forum, 09/14/2026).
“Catastrophic?” Since the splitting of the atom mankind has flirted with catastrophe. AI is just the latest, since we coined the phrase mutual assured destruction or “MAD.” And it is just the current replacement for our fear of climate change and global warming. Not that we shouldn’t have concerns, since in theory it could lead to our “irreversible loss of control.” Of course, we are only kidding ourselves if we ever thought that we had total control in the first place. As for “apocalyptic outcomes for our race,” this has always been the destiny of our race since the garden, when we surrendered our dominion.
The Fall of Man – “And the Lord God said, ‘The man has now become like one of Us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat and live forever.’ So, the Lord God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken. After He drove the man out, He placed on the east side of the Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life.” (Genesis 3:21–24, NIV 1984).
The end of history for all mankind is now and always has been under the control of our Sovereign God. We are no less under His control than the seas. “I fixed limits for it and set its doors and bars in place, when I said, ‘This far you may come and no farther; here is where your proud waves halt?'” (Job 38:10–11, NIV 1984). At some point He will say, “here is where your proud [achievements] halt.” He has done it at least twice before:
The Flood – “Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight and was full of violence. God saw how corrupt the earth had become, for all the people on earth had corrupted their ways. So, God said to Noah, ‘I am going to put an end to all people, for the earth is filled with violence because of them…But I will establish My covenant with you, and you will enter the ark—you and your sons and your wife and your sons’ wives with you.'” (Genesis 6:11–13, 18, NIV 1984).
The Tower of Babel – “Now the whole world had one language and a common speech. As men moved eastward, they found a plain in Shinar and settled there. They said to each other…’Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of the whole earth. But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower that the men were building. The Lord said, ‘If as one people speaking the same language, they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. Come, let Us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.’ So, the Lord scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city.” (Genesis 11:1-2, 4–8, NIV 1984).
And it will with all certainty happen again:
The Apocalypse – “The present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men. the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare. Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be?” (2 Peter 3:7, 10–11, NIV 1984).
This is irreversibly out of our control. Weapons of mass destruction, climate change, and/or AI may play a role. Not because of mankind’s loss of control, but only if God chooses to use these as He unleashes His final judgment on mankind. In the meantime, “we are all [merely] just prisoners here, of our own device[s].” (Hotel California, Don Henley, Glenn Frey, Don Felder). Until that time:
Until Armageddon – “As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.” (Genesis 8:22, NIV 1984).
My Advice – “Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be?” “The only safe way to face the end of history is to be ready for it to end today. Our greatest fear should not be that AI [weapons of mass destruction, climate change] could end life on this planet, but that we are not ready for the day when God does.” (Denison Forum, 09/14/2026). The day when God says, “here is where your proud [achievements] halt.” The day when God says, “it is done!”
“In the year 7510, If God’s a-comin’, He ought to make it by then, maybe He’ll look around Himself and say, ‘guess it’s time for the Judgement Day'” (In the Year 2525, Zager and Evans, 1969). Zager and Evans were optimists. “Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done. Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates of the City.” (Revelation 22:12, 14, NIV 1984).
“I am coming soon!” Even those in charge of the Doomsday Clock, though they might not believe in God or Jesus, agree that we have little time left. So, the question remains, “what kind of people ought you to be?” Those who have washed their robes in the blood of Christ.
The Linchpin of History – “God sent His Son, born of a woman, born under law, to redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons. For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (Galatians 4:4-5, John 3:16, NIV 1984). Become a “whoever ” that’s “”what kind of people ought you to be.”
