Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good, to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and to show true humility toward all men. (Titus 3:1–2, NIV 1984).
My Musings – Being “subject to rulers and authorities,” requires obedience, doing what is good, not being slanderous, peaceful, considerate and humble. Just as it does “toward all men.” Within these parameters, we can disagree, object, even protest. Disobedience is permissible under one condition. “We must obey God rather than men!” (Acts 5:29, NIV 1984). In my estimation, however, all the other parameters remain in effect.
My Advice – While we cannot expect this from non-believers, all believers should continually examine themselves. “For it is God’s will that by doing good [we] should silence the ignorant talk of foolish men. (1 Peter 2:15, NIV 1984). And maybe, just maybe, by “[living] such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse [us] of doing wrong, they may see [our] good [behavior] and glorify God on the day He visits us.” (1 Peter 2:12, NIV 1984). Wouldn’t that be a welcome change from the way many disagree today?
