The righteous flourish like the palm tree and grow like a cedar in Lebanon. They are planted in the house of the Lord; they flourish in the courts of our God. They still bear fruit in old age; they are ever full of sap and green, to declare that the Lord is upright. (Psalm 92:12–15, ESV 2025).
My Musings – “As Christians, one of the most important truths we need to remember is that every action we take, and the manner in which we take it, reflects on our Lord. We don’t get to take days off when it comes to living out our faith well. We are called to live in such a way that when we interact with others, they will recognize that we have been with Jesus.” (“The Daily Article,” The Denison Forum, October 23,2026).
When I turned seventy, I was retired from the bank I had served for fifteen of my forty-eight-year career. An antiquated provision in the bylaws that applied to the position I held, a carryover from the days when seventy-plus-year-olds had been falling asleep in board meetings. Now, I was not like Caleb, “still as strong…just as vigorous [at seventy] …as I was [when I stared my career],” (Joshua 14:11, NIV 1984), but there was still “sap” left and more “fruit” I could have borne.
But God still has plans for me in retirement. Just like we don’t get to “take days off when it comes to living out our faith well” we also don’t get to retire from it either. We may fall asleep on the “job” at times, but as long as God gives us life, we need “to live in such a way that when we interact with others, they will recognize that we have been with Jesus.” And there are so many ways to interact that were not available when I started my secular career in the last century (1977).
My Advice – “When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.” (Acts 4:13, NIV 1984).
Whether you are retired, still working, a student, a stay-at-home mom or dad, what do people see in you? Don’t “take days off when it comes to living out [your] faith well.” You never know when that one person who crosses your path (reads your blog), is the one that needs to recognize Jesus.
