Crisis Mode

Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”  (1 Peter 5:8, NIV 1984).

My Musings – “Why wait for a crisis?”  This is a line from a book I am reading called “Silos, Politics and Turf Wars,” by Patrick Lencioni.  To spiritualize his explanation of this line, why not create the same sense of urgency, purpose, devotion and faithfulness during good times as one does during the not so good times.  In between mountain top experiences is the inevitable valley.  But we often go into that valley unprepared.  Why?  Because we loosen up on the mountain tops, and let down our guard.  Then comes the valley.  The crisis.  We are unprepared for the roaring lion that is on the prowl down there.  Out comes the Bible.  We fall on our knees in prayer.  We get back into the practice of regular church attendance.  Urgency, purpose, devotion and faithfulness make a comeback.

My Advice – “Why wait for the crisis?”  What’s good in the valleys is just as good on the peaks.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
