“Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” (1 Corinthians 15:58, NIV 1984).
My Musings – To stand firm means to remain steadfast in our convictions despite attacks, persecution, or efforts to persuade us otherwise. No one or no thing should be able to move us from where we stand. If we do not stand firm, if we allow something to move us, we cannot possibly give ourselves fully to those convictions. As an encouragement, this verse assures us that remaining true, going all in (fully), will not be in vain (futile).
My Advice – Standing firm is the only viable option. “If [we] do not stand firm in [our] faith, [we] will not stand at all.” (Isaiah 7:9, NIV 1984). A crack in our resolve, a seed of doubt, is all that Satan needs to bring us down. Not out, but down. Ineffective.
My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.
When darkness veils His lovely face,
I rest on His unchanging grace;
In every high and stormy gale,
My anchor holds within the veil.
His oath, His covenant, His blood
Support me in the whelming flood;
When all around my soul gives way,
He then is all my hope and stay.
When He shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh, may I then in Him be found;
Dressed in His righteousness alone,
Faultless to stand before the throne.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinking sand.
