Testing of Our Faith

The testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. (James 1:3–4, NIV 1984).

My Musings – Tests are administered in schools to determine how well we’ve learned what we have been taught. The same is true with spiritual instruction. God will allow, even bring, testing into our lives to demonstrate how much we have learned as well as to develop perseverance. Of course, He already knows, but it is important for us to know as well. It will point out areas where we still need additional instruction, growth and maturity. As we advance in these areas, the “curriculum” gets increasingly more difficult and we will advance (and be tested) even more. The testing is not intended to discourage us, but rather to stimulate us to “attaining the full measure” of Christ.

My Advice – Going through a period of testing? Be encouraged as God demonstrates just how much you have grown in the faith.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be β€œborn again” by accepting Christ.
