Not so with you. (Matthew 20:26, NIV 1984).

My Musings – Of course there is a specific context to the above sound-bite from Matthew’s Gospel. The Kingdom is not about power, position or prestige, but rather sympathy, service and sacrifice. But I don’t think it is necessarily limited to the immediate context. For example, in His sermon on the mount, Jesus repeatedly said, “you have heard it said…but I say to you…”In other words, the world tells you this is the way you should be, these are the things you are to pursue. But Jesus says, “not so with you.“ We are called to a higher standard, a higher purpose, than the world around us. For we are no longer of this world.

My Advice – I cannot improve upon the advice given by the Apostle Paul. “Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy…

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
