The righteous perish, and no one ponders it in his heart; devout men are taken away, and no one understands that the righteous are taken away to be spared from evil. Those who walk uprightly enter into peace; they find rest as they lie in death. (Isaiah 57:1–2, NIV 1984).
My Musings – An interesting verse to ponder. Almost an ancient proverb, “only the good die young,” but a difficult concept to understand. Why, might one wonder, is this so often the case? “To be spared from evil…enter into peace…find rest.” Not necessarily a punishment, but grace and mercy. Even the “pagans” saw that it was often the case. “Whom the gods love dies young,” (Herodotus, in 445 BC).
My Advice – Whatever the reason, it is not wise to question the goodness of God, even when things seem to be turned upside down.
Yes – interesting verse thanks – I’m pondering…
