This is what the LORD says to you: “Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s. March down against them. You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the LORD will give you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them, and the LORD will be with you.” (2 Chronicles 20:15–17, NIV 1984).

My Musings – The specific context of this passage concerns King Jehoshaphat and the Edomite army marching against him. Our battles in life may not be as ominous as the one facing Jehoshaphat, but there will be battles nonetheless, and they will make us afraid and discouraged. But we need not retreat, and we need not face them alone. For the Lord will be with us. Our battles are His battles…

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
