Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 3:12–14, NIV 1984).
My Musings – “Do you know what the secret of life is? One thing. Just one thing. You stick to that and everything else don’t mean [a thing]. That’s what you’ve got to figure out.” (Curly, “City Slickers”).
God is calling us “heavenward in Christ Jesus.” He is the “one thing.” The one person we need to know in order to gain heaven. No other thing. No other way. But countless people have not yet figured it out. They “know lots of stuff,” but really “know nothing” because in the end “everything else [all that stuff] don’t mean [a thing]. One might as well “know nothing.”
My Advice – “[Forget] what is behind.” All the other stuff. “The secret of [eternal] life” is no secret at all. You don’t have “to figure [it] out.” You just have to “take hold of” the One. If you don’t believe gramma, or grampa, or Socrates, or even Curly, believe the Word. It’s the “one thing [you must] do” to inherit eternal life.
