Compelled By The Spirit

The Lord had said to Abram, “Leave your country, your people and your father’s household and go to the land I will show you.” (Genesis 12:1, NIV 1984).

“And now, compelled by the Spirit, I am going to Jerusalem, not knowing what will happen to me there.” (Acts 20:22, NIV 1984).

My Musings – “Go to the land I will show you.” It may be to Jerusalem, or not. You may have an idea of what awaits you, or maybe of “not knowing what will happen to [you] there.” The point is, make sure it is the Lord, “by the Spirit,” that is compelling you. If you believe that is the case, usually through some manner of confirmation that follows prayer and serious contemplation, it will not matter where or what.

My Advice“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5–6, NIV 1984). Don’t let “your own understanding” keep you off the straight path. Like, I need to know where the path leads and what awaits me once I get there. You don’t need to know.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
