We All

Prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. (Ephesians 4:12–13, NIV 1984).

My Musings – Immediately preceding the above text Paul lists what some might call the spiritual elite. “[Jesus] gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers. (Ephesians 4:11, NIV 1984). The “some” who we might expect to “become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.” Certainly, beyond the reach of the most every other believer? Certainly not. “We all” are called. Unfortunately, not all are prepared to do so. But not because they cannot.

My Advice – Longing to be prepared? Find someone that is further along in the calling to disciple you. “So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.” (Colossians 2:6–7).

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
