Breaking Rocks

“Let the one who has My Word speak it faithfully… Is not My word like fire,” declares the Lord, “and like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces?” (Jeremiah 23:28–29, NIV 1984).

My Musings – Only the Word spoken faithfully can be like fire and a hammer. This precludes making it more “user friendly,” appeasing “itching ears,” as well as devoid of “gentleness and respect.”

My Advice – Within these in mind, even if doing so brings us “insult and reproach,” we must not “hold it in.” “If I say, I will not mention Him or speak any more in His name, His Word is in my heart like a fire, a fire shut up in my bones. I am weary of holding it in; indeed, I cannot.” (Jeremiah 20:9, NIV 1984).

“Speak it faithfully.” “In purity, understanding, patience and kindness; in the Holy Spirit and in sincere love; in truthful speech and in the power of God; with weapons of righteousness in the right hand and in the left; through glory and dishonor, bad report and good report.” (2 Corinthians 6:6–8, NIV 1984). With the power of the Holy Spirit to break the rocks of hard-heartedness.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
