Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life. (Proverbs 4:23, NIV 1984).
My Musings – “Above all else” means that it is more important than anything else. So, guarding (watching over and protecting) your heart is more important than anything else you could guard. This, of course, begs the question as to why it is so important? Because it is the wellspring (source of continual supply) of life.
“No good tree bears bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. Each tree is recognized by its own fruit. People do not pick figs from thorn bushes, or grapes from briers. The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart.” (Luke 6:43–45, NIV 1984).
My Advice – The condition of your heart determines the condition of your life. The condition of your heart is determined, “above all else,” by your relationship with Christ. So, “above all else,” make sure your heart is right with Christ.
