Set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. (Colossians 3:1–2, NIV 1984).
My Musings – On a trip to New York in 1931, Winston Churchill was seriously injured when he was hit by a car while crossing the street. Looking right (as he would in England), instead of left (as we do in the United States) he walked into the path of an oncoming car. During WWII, it is probably fair to say that he was as important to preserving England as Abe Lincoln was to preserving the Union in the Civil War. How different history might have been had he been killed in the accident.
Looking and setting our minds and hearts in the right direction (“on things above”) is equally important to our spiritual health. Taking our eyes off “where Christ is seated” can cause us to drift off course and wander into the traffic of “earthly things.”
My Advice – Keep focused on things above.
